Digital Artist Write-Up
The theme of my montage is Destruction of the Environment. I have chosen this theme because it is the most prominent issue in the world today and therefore it is a very important issue to me personally. I took a trip to New Zealand last year where I got hundreds of pictures of lush, green nature at its best. The natural environment of New Zealand, and the pictures I took there are what inspired this piece of work. After seeing how beautiful our earth is and how fragile it is I realized how terrible deforestation and similar issues are. The trees, leafs, and greenery are meant to symbolize the fragile, yet beautiful state of nature we have around the world today. And the pollution ridden, dead landscape on the right is meant to symbolize what our environment can become if we aren’t careful. The backbone of my montage is a picture of a beautiful rock canvas overlooking the open see that I took one day while strolling down a beach. The bottom is a surreal example of what could happen to our earth in an evolutionary form: it starts with a flourishing forest which then flows into a dark, dead marshy environment which then turns into a completely lifeless, dried-out desert.
The two outstanding elements of design I used in my montage were texture and shape. A shape is a self contained defined area of geometric or organic form. The rocks jutting out of the sides and bottom of the piece create positive shapes surrounding the piece. The positive shape on both sides and bottom of the picture plane create negative space in the middle: the blue skies and ocean. Texture is the surface quality of a shape - rough, smooth, soft hard glossy etc. The rocks on either side create a strong visual texture that protrudes through all the images that lie on top of it. The clouds in the background also create visual texture that appears to float through the mountain/tire pile.

For some reason the quality of my PSA is really really brutal.
Ill show you it to you next class so you don't have to mark it based on that.!

1. Poster 1: The main focus of this poster is the figure on the right side of the picture plane. I chose to weigh the poster in this way because when I put my three posters together this picture goes on the right side of the collage, therefore the focus of this poster should be on the right side.
Poster 2: The main focus of this poster is the writing going diagonally across the picture plane. I chose to make the text like this because it helps unify the three posters. The three Anthony Kiedis pictures are placed the way they are on this poster because it keeps the piece balanced.
Poster 3: The focus of this piece is directly in the middle of the picture place. I chose to make this poster completely balanced and even on both sides because it is the center of the three pieces.
2. Poster 1: For my first poster I chose two main photos and put them together to make my Anthony impression. I also used a microphone to show that my hero is a singer. And if that wasn’t enough to tell you who my hero is I wrote his first name along the side. On second glance I decided to add words to illustrate what side of Kiedis I was trying to convey in this poster. With this poster I am trying to communicate to the viewer Anthony’s wild, uncontrollable stage presence side. Which is expressed with the crazy background designs, graffiti and head.
Poster 2: For this poster I used lyrics that Anthony wrote as the focal point of the piece. I also used a soft simple background and a few pictures that al blend nicely to create this masterpiece. I used very soft, ‘girly’ colors in this piece because I am trying to portray Kiedis’s soft, creative side.
Poster 3: This poster is pretty simple; the focal point is the large picture of Anthony, which has been diligently Pop-Arted and it has been placed on an interesting background to make Anthony look like he is in space. I also decided to add his name in at the top because it is the centers of the three posters and neither of the other two posters have my heroes name on them.
4. I honestly don’t think I could pick a strongest poster, I love all three of them in their own way, and they are each completely unique. Poster 1 is very outgoing and bright, showing Anthony’s wild, performance side. Poster 2 express’s Anthony’s soft, creative, loving side. And poster 3 unites the three posters and helps lead into the other two pieces.
5. I am more then satisfied with all three of my posters, I have put lots of time and thought into all of them and I like them the way they are.
